Vidura's teachings included a summary of Chandogya-Upanishad's three chapters on Vidushakara-Prathama (self-satisfaction of self) and its cosmic significance. Vidura enumerated various qualities below the four stages of life, or varnas, which constitute the human career. He said that such a person has the four stages of human existence. He was sometimes known to be a source for the following verses of ancient scriptures:
At a particular place, Vidura comes to the knowledge that the city of Lankapuri in the Kingdom of Madurai is being built by King Madhavi who is a scion of a famous lineage and is a son of a virtuous man. Due to this knowledge, the city is named after the king and Vidura recommends it as a place of refuge for the king and his family, since his ancestors have there always taken refuge.
Vidura speaks to Yudhisthir suggesting the four paths of life (Deva A.V.irata) are the path of joy (Kama), the path of austerity (Svadhyaya), the path of meditation (Tapasya), the path of charity (Dasana). He also speaks on the Eightfold path as compiled in the Buddhist view of Buddhism: I) Right View, II) Right Thought, III) Right Conduct, IV) Right Livelihood, V) Right Effort, VI) Right Mindfulness, VII) Right Concentration, VIII) Right Equanimity.
